Privacy Policy

This policy explains what After Hours collects, why, who it's shared with, and how to delete it. After Hours is run by After Dark Chat, LLC in California, USA. It is for adults 18 and older in the United States and Canada.

What we collect

• Your email address, to sign you in with a one-time code.
• The name you want companions to call you, if you give one.
• Your chats and roleplays, so conversations continue where you left off.
• What a companion remembers about you: a short summary of things you've shared. You can see and edit it on the companion's memory page.
• Your voice, when you use the microphone. It is turned into text so the companion can reply. We don't keep the recording.
• Purchases: what you bought and when. Card details are handled by the payment provider (Apple); we never see or store your card number.
• How you use the app, such as pages opened and chats started, to fix problems and improve it.
• Notification settings, if you turn on notifications.
• Feedback you send us.
• Your approximate country and region, from your connection, because the service is only offered in the US and Canada.

We don't collect your contacts, photos, precise location or health information.

How we use it

• To run the service: sign-in, chat, voice, memory, purchases and notifications.
• To keep it safe: age and region checks, and pausing a chat to show help resources if someone may be in crisis.
• To fix bugs and improve the app.

We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising or share it with ad networks.

Companies that process data for us

These companies process data only to provide their part of the service:

• Anthropic, which writes the companions' replies. Your messages are sent to them to create each reply.
• ElevenLabs, which turns replies into speech and your voice into text.
• Supabase, which stores accounts, chats and memory.
• Vercel and Cloudflare, which host the app and its videos and images.
• Resend, which sends sign-in emails.
• Apple, which handles in-app purchases.

Before your first chat, the app tells you that companions are AI and that your messages are sent to these AI providers.

AI companions

Every companion is a fictional character created and voiced by AI, not a real person. Replies can be wrong. Don't rely on them for medical, legal, financial or emergency help.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, chats and memory until you delete them or your account. Records we must keep for tax or payment reasons are kept as long as the law requires.

Your choices

• Edit or delete what a companion remembers on that companion's memory page.
• Turn notifications off at any time from the ☰ menu.
• Delete your account from the Account page. This deletes your account, chats, memory and favorites.
• To ask what we hold about you, or for anything else, email afterdarkchatapp@proton.me.

California residents have rights under California privacy law, including to know, delete and correct personal information. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising.

Adults only

After Hours is only for people 18 and older. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the people who run the service, and accounts use one-time sign-in codes instead of passwords. No system is perfectly secure.
